Perhaps he is not worthy of such relief. But looking at it on a larger scale, he is a taxpayer, so he too can avail of it. Such program may still be applicable to him despite that annoying fact of his lifestyle. Anyways, he's the one pay to pay off his debts eventually.
What can he do to avail debt relief? It's like this; he can either get loan consolidation. Seeking a lender that would pay off all his credit card debts, would be one of the options. Alternately, he can file for bankruptcy. In such case, he might be given a settlement to pay off his debts in a staggered manner.
So far, for home mortgage problem, the government agency, Home Development Administration, can facilitate for negotiation with its lender. At the same time, this agency caters to debt counseling and finding a financial institution that may help his problem. These services are already part of the government grants aimed at debt relief.
At this point, this extravagant person is already enjoying government's helping hand. Much as we want to make him suffer, the government will not still allow that. Beside, this should serve as a hard lesson learned for him. If not for a debt relief program, he will be in deep trouble and may be serving jail later.
While this sounds so simple for him to get away with his debt problems, it is not actually so. For one, the humiliation, second that stress of being subjected to scrutiny if he can really pay or not. Third, all those paper works and documents to be secured to prove his incapacity to pay. And lastly, he might need the service of a lawyer, which means he has to pay for the professional fees.
All in all, his lifestyle got the better of him. If this is not going to make him learn from his mistakes, there might not be another chance of debt relief. Who knows if the government will still be this generous to him?
